Kuala Lumpur List
Must Visit
- Pavilion mall is the best mall in all of Kuala Lumpur, in my opinion. You will find:
- Art Friend is a biiig art shop (I think on the 6th floor)
- an excellent Daiso on the 6th floor (in little Tokyo)
- excellent sushi at Sushi Zanmai in the same little Tokyo on floor 6 (make sure to order the fatty salmon, it’s delicious)
- Din Tai Fung (a Taiwanese chain), my favorite chain restaurant in Asia
- The basement has a huge food court with any cuisine you can think of
- Near Bukit Bintang you will find little Arabia, with loads of Kunafa shops, shawarma, and more. Favorites include Damascus for shawarma and Kunafa Crisp for sweets
- Visit the Japanese shop Don Don Donki in Lot 10. Also walk around the Lot10 mall, the upstairs has a lot of other Japanese brands and foods
- Get prescription glasses at Alpha Concept at Sungei Wang mall (Bukit Bintang)
- If you are near Sunway Velocity mall, check out MiX Store. They have popular foods and drinks from all Asian countries, it’s neat to walk around
- You MUST visit uniqlo at least once in Malaysia. More likely, multiple times! One of their bigger shops is in Bukit Bintang near Pavilion Mall (here on the map)
- Make sure to visit Suria mall and the Petronas Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world and the former tallest building in the world. While you are there, visit the big Kinokuniya store. Lunch or dinner at the vegetarian Indian restaurant Saravanaa Bhavan in the food court is a cheap but tasty treat.
- Jalan Alor pedestrian street is a bit of a tourist trap (maybe the only place that they cater to tourists in KL), but worth seeing
Shopping
- Buy a 2 TB SanDisk hard drive (cost is $150 on US Amazon) at Plaza Low Yat, the electronics mall. The Sri Computer shop on the 2nd floor and the Viewnet shop on the 3rd floor both have a great selection.
- Daiso has a back/shoulder strap to help with straightening your posture
Optional
- Order delivery from any Indian restaurant and make sure to order gobi manchurian (the cauliflower appetizer that tastes like chicken - it’s even tastier in Malaysia)
- I am a big fan of these drift karts at Sungei Wang mall
- Chinatown (area around Petaling Street Market). If you want to try tasty fresh soy milk or buy a cheap suitcase, Petaling Street Market is the place to be
- The Merdeka 118 is the 2nd tallest building in the world, but the observation deck is not open yet. Instead, you can buy a ticket (at least 1 week in advance) for the Petronas Towers
